Coaches Facebook Live Q&A With Lindsey Wilson

With a Coaches Facebook group of over 1300 coaches (and growing every day), we wanted to get to know our coaches better and give back to our community by hosting our first ever Coaches Facebook Live Q&A. Coaches were encouraged to submit questions ahead of time using the hashtag #QAwithLindsey, and they were also encouraged to attend the Q&A live to ask any additional questions and join the live conversation. We had a number of coaches attend live to ask questions and provide links to resources for coaches, and others who tuned in after the broadcast concluded. Overall, it was an impactful way to connect with our national community of coaches, and to get a pulse on the real issues that our coaches are struggling with. How to Set Goals You Will Actually Achieve.

I LOVE the New Year. Rationally, I know that it’s just another day, but in my heart, it helps me to stop to reflect on my life and give hope to my dreams. As with most New Years, I’ve taken time off, basked in some good vacation and family time, and now I’m ready to get to WORK.

2020is going to be huge for me and for Positive Performance. I’m sitting in a coffee shop right now absolutely freaking PUMPED about this year (and it’s not just the coffee:)

But I also know that when I feel that excitement I have to manifest that energy it into something ACTIONABLE (i.e. a plan). From a mindset perspective I also do one very important (albeit counterintuitive) thing:

Are You Greedy For Results?

 

Why do you practice long hours, put in time at the gym, run stairs on the weekends, go back to school, apply for that internship, or work overtime at the office? Oftentimes, you do it because you believe that it will all pay off.

You believe that it will earn you the result you really want.

Being greedy for results can be a good thing. It can keep your goals high, give you energy, and act as motivation when you’re approaching burnout. That little girl who says she’ll play in the WNBA someday might just make it because she has her eye on the prize, she’s greedy for results.

But being greedy for results is not always a good thing. When it goes too far, it can result in self-destruction.

Love the Shot Clock and Shoot Before You Turn it Over

I do better with limitations. If you give me a project and tell me I have forever to do it, my brain does not get excited. But, if you give me a deadline, I will knock it out like it’s my JOB. I think most people are like that. Ever had an athlete who got better grades in season than off season?

With just a little challenge and a little adrenaline, BOOM, your mind will focus on RESULTS and you'll get WAY more done. 

When deadlines don't exist on their own, there are ways to give yourself limitations of your own in order to really benefit from this type of a mind shift.

Negative vs. Positive: Thought Discipline and The Harder Path to Self-Growth

You know what’s really easy? Being negative. You know what’s really hard? Being positive.

In sports (and beyond) we don’t really ‘get' this all the time. Sometimes, we get it a bit confused because negativity can easily be mistaken for positive attributes such as drive or resilience. 
 
I had a coach once who everyone respected. "Look how competitive he is!", they’d say, "He’s so DRIVEN!", they’d comment as he grumbled and stomped around and yelled at players.
 
Give me break. Anyone can be negative.
 
It’s not a badge of honor. It doesn’t mean you ‘want it’ more than others. All it means is that you don’t control your thoughts and you’ve learned to be driven by fear alone. Because under that negativity, under that anger is a feeling that you aren’t good enough.

Meredith Brick: How one Coach Redefined her Business and Raised her Prices 400%

 

Since we met Meredith nearly 4 months ago, she has transformed, personally and professionally.

Mark Ehlen: From Sitting on the Sidelines to Ready to Influence the World

 

I'm sure we can agree that nothing is quite as impactful as a good TRUE story of a life changed for the better. Today, I want to tell you about Mark Ehlen; he's one of the coaches in the Mindset Coach Academy who will be graduating with his Mindset Coach Certification (along with his class) in just a couple weeks. 

Mark's basketball resume is impressive, he is a heavily awarded, 30-year Division I college coach with a reputation for winning (to put it lightly). Due to his noteworthy coaching career, Mark was also inducted into the Hall of Fame; an honor well-deserved.
